ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS

This website observes all AA’s practices and principles. Since ‘anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions’, we practice anonymity at all times. A website is a public medium which has the potential for reaching the broadest possible audience and, therefore, requires the same safeguards that we use at the level of press, radio and film.

A Declaration of Unity

This we owe to AA’s future: To place our common welfare first;
To keep our fellowship united. For on AA unity depend our lives And the lives of those to come.

Recovery, Unity, Service — these are the Three Legacies given to the whole membership of A.A. by its founders and their fellow oldtimers. When this heritage was announced, at the St. Louis Convention in 1955, celebrating A.A.’s 20th birthday, Doctor Bob was already gone. But Bill W. spoke for him and the other pioneers, as well as for himself, in turning over to all of us the responsibility for A.A.’s continuation and growth.

Our Twelfth Step — carrying the message — is the basic service that the A.A. Fellowship gives; this is our principal aim and the main reason for our existence. Therefore, A.A. is more than a set of principles; it is a society of alcoholics in action. We must carry the message, else we ourselves can wither and those who haven’t been given the truth may die. Hence, an A.A. service is anything whatever that helps us to reach a fellow sufferer — ranging all the way from the Twelfth Step itself to a ten-cent phone call and a cup of coffee, and to A.A.’s General Service Office for national and international action. The sum total of all these services is our Third Legacy of Service. Taken from AA's Legacy of Service pamphlet

God doesn’t call the qualified, God qualifies the called.

Will I ever be able to give back to AA what AA has given to me?

Group Level Service

There are many ways to give back to AA at the Group level. Some of these are making coffee, opening meeting locations, putting out chairs, chairing meetings. Others are elected positions such as the Secretary, Treasurer and Group Service Representative (GSR). NOTE: This is a limited list of service opportunities at the group level – there are many more.

The entire structure of A.A. depends upon the participation and conscience of the individual groups, and how each of these groups conducts its affairs has a ripple effect on A.A. everywhere. Thus, we are ever individually conscious of our responsibility for our own sobriety and, as a group, for carrying the A.A. message to the suffering alcoholic who reaches out to us for help.

For more information on how a Group participates in AA as a whole, read the pamphlet The A.A. Group.. where it all begins.

District Level Service

Groups are organized into district, generally collections of groups located near one another. The GSRs in each district elect the District Committee Member (DCM), who becomes part of the area committee.

In District 62, there are several positions available. The following is an example of the positions currently in District 62 as of 2026. Click on the position below, for more information.
